Budget Wines: Bois de Lamothe Cotes de Duras 2010

Bois de Lamothe A Merlot/Cabernet blend from Duras, a respected but lesser-known region (about 60 miles from Bordeaux) so you’re not paying for reputation. Definitely old world with cherry and red current aromas framed by plenty of earth notes. Juicy with hints of cola on a medium bodied palate that turns rustic and coarse on the finish. Good acidity and medium, somewhat chalky tannins.

But of course this is not a premium wine; a solid value at $4-$5 (sold at Trader Joes) and a cut above U.S. and South American wines in this price range. A very drinkable wine and good with food, this is the paradigm of an everyday French wine.

13% alcohol.
